5. Ambar
At this popular Balkan restaurant in Clarendon, the mussels are playfully called “drunken,” a reference to the addition of rakija — a fruit brandy commonly found in Southeastern Europe. Garlic, capers and lemon round out the flavor profile.

6. Oz Restaurant & Bar
This Australian-inspired eatery recently landed a new chef who added several new dishes to the menu, including a lovely bowl of mussels that is billed as having a curry broth, but tastes more Mediterranean with the inclusion of fennel and tomato sauce. No matter. It’s still good — and it comes with grilled sourdough bread for sopping up all that flavor.
