You’ve nearly polished off the Halloween candy, solidified your Thanksgiving menu and at least contemplated buying some Christmas gifts. Now it’s time to officially launch the start of peppermint mocha season with the purchase of your Christmas tree. Clarendon United Methodist Church Annual Tree Sale

Freshly cut and arriving from a farm in Canada, these trees, which measure between 6 and 8 feet tall, are a hybrid cross—a combo of a Fraser and balsam fir. Each tree costs $85-$100, and the proceeds benefit Arlington Thrive, a nonprofit that provides same-day emergency financial assistance to residents in sudden crisis. CUMC recommends prepaying for your tree and choosing a pickup time, but you can also stroll through the greenery (they’ve got 300 trees available till they sell out) in person. Merrifield Garden Center

The halls at the Merrifield Garden Center are decked with natural and artificial wreaths, garland and cut greens plus themed artificial trees—all of which are for sale. But if it’s a tree you’re after, they have those, too, in several varieties, subject to availability. Merrifield has tabletop-height-to-18-foot trees, including Fraser firs, Douglas firs, Turkish firs and white pines ($45-$145+). P.S. Optimist Club of Arlington Annual Tree Sale

The yearly event is back, with volunteers from youth athletic teams, high schools and, of course, Optimist Club members ready to help load your vehicle with the perfect tree. Choose from Fraser fir and balsam fir trees, ranging from tabletop size (perfect for apartment living!) to 10-foot behemoths. Also find White House Christmas ornaments and extra greenery to help fill your home with cheer. Pre-cut trees are available, but you can also borrow a saw and tree cart to cut your own. Be prepared to haul home medium—7 to 9 feet—or large—9 to 11 feet—Fraser firs. Additionally, you can pick up a fresh, 25-inch balsam fir wreath in cranberry splash and Victorian styles.
