“It’s unreasonable to buy a Ferrari,” says Arlingtonian Danielle Schefer. “It doesn’t make sense for anyone.” But that bit of prudence doesn’t mean you can’t drive a Ferrari occasionally—at least according to Schefer, who in August launched the club Drive Society with her husband, Alex.
For those who have a need for speed, the duo has assembled a stable of eight head-turning cars that Drive Society club members can borrow for a long weekend or a week, including a 1969 Chevy Camaro and a Porsche 911 Carrera S. Soon, the fleet will also include a Ferrari 458 Italia, a Lotus Evora S and three other beauties. The club offers three levels of membership, with monthly dues and an award points program. Members can pick up the cars from parking places in Orange Line garages.
Schefer’s favorite ride? That would be the apple-red Tesla roadster. “It’s silent and fast, like driving a little go-kart,” she says of the convertible, which accelerates from 0 to 60 in 3.7 seconds. “I like to say the Tesla was my reason for starting the club.” www.drivesocietydc.com
