BalletNova (formerly The Center Dance Company/Arlington Center for Dance) presented The Nutcracker on November 29 – December 2, 2012 for six performances at Thomas Jefferson Community Theater in Arlington to audiences totaling over 4,000.
Choreographed by Nancie Woods (BN Artistic Director) and Caroline Frankil Warren (BN Executive Director) to Tchaikovsky’s classical score, BalletNova’s full-length Nutcracker lead audiences through the magical story of Clara and her mysterious Uncle Drosselmayer, breaking the evil spell set on the Nutcracker Prince, and her adventures in the Kingdom of Snow and the Kingdom of the Sweets.
BalletNova Conservatory student, Giselle MacDonald (a sixteen year old junior at Washington Lee High School ) took on the challenging role of the Sugar Plum Fairy, dancing with guest artist Barry Kerollis from Philadelphia, Pa., formerly a dancer with the Pacific Northwest Ballet. Company dancers are drawn from BalletNova Center for Dance’s Conservatory Division, a serious pre-professional training program for young dances aged 8–18.
These performances were supported in part by Arlington County through the Cultural Affairs Division of the Arlington Economic Development, Arlington Commission on the Arts.
