On September 12, a crowd of sixty community leaders, students, families and supporters gathered for The Sycamore School’s grand opening ribbon cutting. Kate Bates, Arlington Chamber of Commerce CEO, Tina Leone, Ballston BID CEO, Karen Bate, Founder of Awesome Women Entrepreneurs, and Justin Miller of the Caruthers Group offered inspiring remarks about the role of small schools, the innovative use of commercial space for education, and the proximity of the school to a rich and diverse neighborhood of businesses, nonprofits and green space from which the school can develop community partnerships. Enrolled students participated in the ribbon cutting ceremony, which was held in their multi-purpose room that looks more like a modern lounge than a school, with white lacquer furniture and a refurbished juke box.
