On Saturday, October 13, over 350 guests enjoyed a beautiful fall morning at the Key School in Arlington by participating in sports, arts & crafts, a DJ-hosted dance party, and a boot camp class.
The "Mason Mile" Fun Run kicked off the family wellness and fitness event – "Superstar Family Fun Day" – which was started five years ago in loving memory of Mason Leach, who lost his battle to brain cancer in October 2007.
Since then, the Arlington community has gathered together once a year to celebrate his love for sports and the arts. This free community event raised over $5,000 dollars for the Mason Leach Superstar Fund and the Key PTA Wellness Committee, as well as 25 pints of blood for the Children's National Bloodmobile.
The following local groups volunteered their time to make the event a huge success: Marymount University's lacrosse team and physical therapy students, GW physical therapy students, Slapshot of the Washington Capitals, The Red Rockers of the Washington Capitals, The Washington Kastles, The Washington Mystics and Wizards, Laurie Litvak Granger Boot Camp, DJ Jason Cerda and Perry Kitchen of DC United.
