The winter holidays may be right around the corner, but first Falls Church City is prepping for a sudden influx of spiders, bats and ghosts. Each October, the Halloween Paint-In brings together a small army of volunteer artists to paint scenes on the windows of some 30 local businesses. Barbara Cram, president of Falls Church Arts, coordinates the effort. “What the businesses really like,” she says, “is that the paintings are so colorful from the inside, with the sunshine so bright in the fall.”
Past painters have included professional artists, families, Scout troops and the town mayor. Weather permitting, the artwork will be completed by Oct. 15, and the first two blocks of West Broad Street are shaping up to be especially spooky this year.
