Attendees cheered on the sidelines or joined other walkers in this all-nighter to support cancer research and cancer patients. Nearly 80 teams turned out for the seventh annual fundraiser, which benefits the American Cancer Society.
The race commenced with special laps for survivors and caregivers, after which the marathon relay lasted into the wee hours. Each team had a walker on the track at all times during the night while the others camped out to await their turns.
Last year’s participants raised more than $90,000, according to organizers. In addition to fundraising, the event celebrates the lives of cancer survivors and remembers those who have passed away.
