Sisters Thai

The family-owned Thai restaurant known for interiors resembling comfy living rooms is opening a fifth sister establishment in Tysons’ Capital One Center, where it will be in good company with dining options such as Ometeo, Wren and Stellina Pizza. If the Sisters Thai locations in Mosaic and Fairfax City are any indication, the menu will feature traditional dishes such as pad thai and panang curry, plus papaya salads, soups and spicy stir fry. Dolan Uyghur

Housed in the former Pizzeria Orso space, this third location of the restaurant is the first of the trio to add Mediterranean cuisine to its Dolan and Uyghur menu. Appetizers include samsas (oven-baked buns with minced beef and onions) and chuchura soup (featuring mini dumplings with minced beef, lamb and onions). In addition to nine noodle dishes and six types of kebabs, the kitchen serves Uyghur specialties such as Kawa Manta (vegetarian steamed buns stuffed with pumpkin, bell peppers and onions), and Dolan fare such as stir-fried crispy shrimp with garlic, onions and bell peppers. Owner Hamid Kerim will add breakfast and brunch next month and plans to open another location in Crystal City early next year. Soft opening: Nov. 11. // 400 S. Maple Ave., Falls Church

Casa Mariachi Bar and Grille

A new Tex-Mex and Latin restaurant has opened in The Little City, touting a long menu of burritos, fajitas, pupusas, tacos and quesadillas in addition to chicken, beef and seafood entrees. Top off your feast with a serving of flan or churros and wash it down with a marg, pina or daiquiri from the full bar. Opened: Nov. 8. // 133 E. Annandale Road, Falls Church

Modan

Its name means “modern” in Japanese, and the 7,000-square-foot restaurant in the new Heming apartment complex dishes up contemporary cuisine. Executive Chef Micheole “Chico” Dator—most recently the executive sushi chef at Nobu DC—has perfected a proprietary in-house dry aging process, using enzymes to break down the protein and fat structures within meat and fish while drawing out moisture. The space has a bar, sushi counter, eight-seat omakase counter, private dining space and outdoor patio. Specialty sushi rolls include the Modan Rainbow (king crab, tuna, king salmon, yellowtail, whitefish, shrimp and caviar) and Octopussy (octopus and avocado). Want something hot? Go for an entree of lobster or lamb chops. Upping the fancy factor: caviar service plus Japanese A5 Wagyu. Opened: Nov. 8. // 1788 Chain Bridge Road, McLean

The 10-year-old DMV chainlet has added a McLean spot to the fold, where the menu includes small bites such as slow-roasted pork or roasted squash empanadas, along with salads, and, of course, a rainbow of pizzas classified as green, red or white. Try the Green Monster pie with pesto, mozzarella, feta, zucchini and kale; the Pretty in Pepperoni (which is pretty straightforward); or The Worthy, topped with provolone and mozzarella, sous vide chicken thigh, Carolina barbecue sauce, red onions, apples and micro cilantro. Occupying the former Pamplona space, it’s named after Earl of Clarendon Edward Hyde, the neighborhood’s namesake. Get your eat on with a shareable poke tower of ahi tuna; cheese fries with Applewood smoked bacon; or entrees such as mushroom ravioli or the signature Hyde Burger with an Angus brisket/short rib blend, pork belly and cheddar cheese—cut and presented tableside with an open-faced egg. The 11 specialty cocktails include the Smoked Butter Pecan (Basil Hayden bourbon, butter pecan syrup, chili bitters, candied bacon and dehydrated butter pecan) and Ube Spice (Llegan Joven mezcal, 818 Reposado tequila, spicy agave, lime juice, ube syrup, agave, gochujang flake, lava salt and dehydrated lime). The popular Clarendon coffee shop now has a second Arlington location in National Landing. But this one differs from its sibling by offering a full dinner menu in addition to coffee and brunch. Dig into the Red Jam Burger with red onion jam, gruyere and rosemary aioli, or try the hearty Matcha Beet Salad featuring romaine hearts, kale, radicchio, beets, pecans and hard boiled egg. After 3 p.m. the bar serves wine, beer and cocktail specials such as the Ship of Fools: peanut butter-washed Rittenhouse Rye, grilled pineapple, banana and beer nuts. This steakhouse chain now has a NoVa outpost in Tysons, where it fills the spot that McCormick & Schmick’s occupied until 2018. Menu updates at this Northern Virginia chainlet with locations in Arlington, Falls Church and Alexandria bring new flavors to their smash burgers. Try the Au Poivre (cheddar, peppercorn sauce and caramelized onions), Wild Chili (cheddar, beef chili and onion crisps), Bistro (two patties with caramelized onion, brie and apricot jam) or the Levant (American cheese, caramelized onions, ketchup, mayo, coleslaw and fries). Also great for game day: A slider box that lets you pick 12 mini versions of the eatery’s burgers or fried chicken sandwiches. This Italian restaurant debuted its new fall and winter menu on Oct. 30 with its first baked pasta and stromboli. Other dishes include Burrata Di Stagione (red wine-poached pear, Sicilian pistachio crumble, affinato and grilled ciabatta) and Lasagna Bianca Al Forno, made with Grana Padano bechamel, provolone, mozzarella and herb breadcrumbs. The cocktail list also got a refresh and now includes the Turino Old Fashioned (rye, hazelnut, brown sugar and angostura) and the Marco Polo (whisky, Montenegro, honey, ginger and fresh lemon. // 1651 Boro Place, McLean

Andy’s Pizza

The buzzy and award-winning pizzeria is getting set to open its first Arlington location in Virginia Square. This will be the 11th location for owner Andy Brown, whose signature pies include Buffalo Crispy Chicken, the Carnivore and the plant-based Miller Time. The original spot, which opened in 2018, is inside Tysons Galleria (2001 International Drive, McLean). // 901 N. Pollard St., Arlington (Virginia Square)

Bad Ass Coffee of Hawaii

What started in 1989 on the Big Island now has locations in 14 other states, and Virginia Square is getting one soon. Featured menu items include the Dirty Pumpkin Chai and Caramel Apple Mana, but the beverage menu is extensive. Start studying for your order now from lists of lattes, hot classics, cold brew, lemonades, smoothies and frozen Koffee Koolers. Open for breakfast and lunch, the cafe also serves sandwiches and baked goods, including a Twisted Malasada Donut (sweet dough topped with cinnamon sugar). // 3701 N. Cheesecake Factory

The signs say Dec. 5 is the opening date for the Tysons Corner relocation of this fan favorite. (It’s moving from Tysons Galleria to Tysons Corner Center.) The chain has a novel-length menu with more than 250 dishes, including salads, burgers, pasta and, naturally, cheesecake. Speaking of which, order the newest flavor, Triple Berry Bliss Cheesecake, through July 29, 2025, and the restaurant will donate 25 cents from every sale to Feeding America, a nonprofit that supports people experiencing hunger and homelessness. Green Pig Bistro

The 12-year-old Clarendon restaurant is relocating to the first floor of sister restaurant Buena Vida Gastrolounge, which will remain open on the second floor of the three-story building. Come January, this Roman-style pizzeria (named after the Italian city) will start serving its crispy, thin-crust rectangular pies in Rosslyn, along with gelato, traditional desserts and Italian beer and wine. Coming Nov. 19 to the neighborhood surrounding Amazon’s HQ2, this taqueria will be the first for the chainlet outside of D.C., where it has two locations. Serving authentic Mexican home-style and street foods, the menu includes tacos, tortas, nachos, quesadillas, loaded fries and mulitas (crispy stuffed tortillas). Get an all-you-can-eat hot pot and Korean barbecue at this eatery coming to Ballston Quarter in early 2025.
