DeFalco’s advice is twofold: First—focus on the essentials, and tailor the design to those functions or spaces that are absolutely critical to everyday living. “Nice to have” amenities can often be added later. Second—involve potential builders early in the design process, when scope changes can be easily made if cost estimates exceed the project budget.
