What happens to our face as we age?
Dr. Csaba Magassy: It is the overall shape of the face that creates a youthful optical impression. The youthful “V” shape becomes more of an elongated “U” shape as the years go on. Unfortunately, there is a loss of volume of the face with the associated sagging of the cheeks and jowls. Luckily, the appearance of a more youthful look can be maintained and/or restored with either biocompatible fillers or autologous fat transfer with Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP). I prefer the latter because it is your own tissue and, with a combination of PRP, results may last approximately three to five years to sustain a more youthful look. It can be placed in the cheeks, on the temples, laugh lines, cheeks and lips. Performed in our office setting with minimal downtime, the results are tailor-made to your particular anatomy or desired contour.

What are the benefits of using PRP in skin rejuvenation?
Jeane Thomas, RN: PRP is the portion of the blood that can stimulate stem cells. In the aesthetic field, this translates to the activation of growth factors that stimulate collagen production with reduction of fine lines and wrinkles. It also increases blood supply, which gives a nice glow to the skin and can normalize the tone of the skin. Another great use of PRP in skin rejuvenation is for the hollow portion underneath the eyes (dark circles), which can be very tricky and difficult to treat, but with the use of PRP many patients see amazing results. PRP can be injected in the skin alone, or in combination with fillers or when performing a micro-needling treatment, depending on the patient’s particular need. Results can be seen in as little as 48 hours but improvement continues up to six weeks after initial treatment.
