The couple: Layne Eidemiller, 28, originally from Lititz, Pennsylvania, and Scott Frantz, 30, an Arlington native. They met in Arlington and now live in San Diego, where together they run the technology consulting firm Scott founded in 2016. Layne is also a part-time personal trainer.
How they met: Layne moved to Arlington in May 2013 after earning her master’s degree in clinical exercise physiology from James Madison University. (Scott is a graduate of Davidson College, where he majored in economics with a minor in Chinese.) They were introduced two months later, on the Fourth of July, by a mutual friend at Overlee Swim Club.
First date: Boulevard Woodgrill in Clarendon (now closed)
The proposal: “Scott rented a beautiful blue beach house in Corolla, North Carolina, and arranged for both families to be there as a surprise,” Layne says. “I had no idea. Scott proposed under a gazebo with a picture-perfect background of the ocean. They all had a perfect view from inside the house.”
Great together because: “We bring out the best qualities in each other and support each other through our weaknesses,” Layne says. “We make an awesome team and we love working together.”
The wedding: Sept. 3, 2017, at Army Navy Country Club in Arlington. Simple and classic, it featured cobalt blue as a signature color.
Number of guests: 130
Personal touches: “Every year until I was 16, my aunt added an inch to a strand of pearls. I wore that necklace on my wedding day,” Layne says. “My parents had a beautiful birdhouse-size gazebo built for us, reminiscent of the gazebo where Scott proposed. We used it to hold all of the cards people gave us during the wedding.”
Oops: “We were doing a first look at the country club, but we both showed up at the exact same time, so Scott had to do some laps before he was finally able to get out of the car,” Layne recalls. “At the end of the night our limo got a flat tire en route to pick us up.”

Favorite hangouts: Overlee Swim Club, where Scott spent a good part of his childhood. “We swam there while we were still living in Arlington and training for triathlons,” Scott says, “and at the Washington-Lee pool, swimming with the Arlington Masters. During training we ate a lot of Peruvian chicken from Crisp & Juicy and a lot of Thai food at Ghin Na Ree.”
