Who says guys don’t understand what women need? “I started getting pedicures with my wife, but none of the salons seemed to fit her lifestyle,” says Justin Cook, co-founder of the newly opened Coatroom salon in Ballston. The existing options were either too fancy and overpriced, he says, or affordable but devoid of style.
Enter Coatroom, a “clean, fun, affordable” alternative that offers luxe nail and waxing services at prices that aren’t a punch to the wallet. Manis and pedis start at $19 and $29, respectively, while waxing services for both men and women range from $10 to $65.
The salon offers both gel and regular polish in 1,000 (yes, one thousand) color options, from brands such as essie, OPI, Deborah Lippmann, CND Vinylux and Chanel. Its aestheticians do nail art, but not the artificial stuff. “We’re only working with natural nails,” Cook says.
Hygiene here is serious business. Pedicure bowls have disposable liners and multi-use tools are sanitized the same way they would be in a dentist’s office (the two-step process combines micro-abrasion and steam-cleaning). The cleaning process is transparent, Cook says, with a lab space set up “like an open kitchen.”
Look for Coatroom’s online booking app, along with special events such as “Toes Before Bros” pedi parties, and Sunday morning detox specials, which are served up with kombucha.
