Get Away: Snowshoe Mountain Resort

Ski season is here! And West Virginia is calling.

After a couple of ski seasons that were short on powder, Snowshoe Mountain Resort has improved its terrain with nearly $4 million worth of environmentally friendly snowmaking machines. Situated at the southern end of Cheat Mountain—West Virginia’s second-highest peak at 4,848 feet—Snowshoe is close enough to the Great Lakes for upslope lake effect snow and far enough east to cash in on big nor’easters. Two of the resort’s mountains offer a combined 60 trails for skiers from novice to advanced; 12 trails are open for night skiing. Backcountry snowmobile tours, snow tubing, a full-service spa, indoor/outdoor heated swimming pools, a “Monsters in the Woods” escape room and a small village’s worth of dining options round out the offerings. The resort’s Brigham Collection of studio to six-bedroom units features high-thread-count linens and spacious kitchens, plus pre-arrival concierge support and delivery of rental equipment to your door. Rates vary widely depending on unit size and time of year.
