In keeping with her commitment to collaborations and live musical accompaniment, artistic director and choreographer, Lucy Bowen McCauley united Alan Paul of Shakespeare Theatre, The Witkowski Piano Duo, Italian virtuoso saxophonist Gaetano Di Bacco, and a host of accomplished musicians.
BMD also celebrated the centennial anniversary of Le Sacre du Printemps (Rite of Spring) with an interpretation The Washington Post called McCauley’s, “strongest work to date…muscular, theatrically arresting.”
The company also performed to newly commissioned scores by Larry Alan Smith – Before the Fall, a ballet based of the story of Humpty Dumpty, danced by The Maryland Youth Ballet – and New York composer Patrick Soluri – Fire and Air, a theatrical reimagining of Shakespeare’s Antony and Cleopatra, featuring a rare performance by Lucy Bowen McCauley.
It was a night of dance, music & celebration at The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts (Terrace Theater).
