Although crime statistics do not represent the total picture of a neighborhood, they can be a useful measurement to gauge the relative safety of an area. We’ve analyzed Arlington County Police Dept. data from 2015 to 2016 – the most recent data available – to calculate the crime rate of every neighborhood in Arlington.
Only incidents as defined by the FBI as “Part I offenses” (murder, rape, robbery, aggravated assault, burglary, motor vehicle theft, larceny and arson) are included in this analysis. Our rankings do not factor in “Part II” offenses like vandalism and public drunkenness. We divided the number of incidents by each neighborhood’s population and multiplied it by 1,000 to arrive at the crime rate per 1,000 residents. Here are the rankings in ascending order.
#10: Claremont
Crime rate: 14.19 per 1,000 residents
Most common crimes: larceny/theft, robbery, motor vehicle theft
