NiHao
It seems you just can’t stop chef Peter Chang from opening restaurants, and really, why would you want to? The latest in his family’s growing empire (which includes Peter Chang Arlington and Peter Chang McLean), NiHao specializes in small plates full of big Sichuan flavors. Find Walnut Shrimp, Sweet and Sour Chicken Slices, Dry-Fried Eggplant made with the chef’s signature “hot and numbing” chili and Sichuan peppercorns, and pork ribs and fries. Wash all of that down with cocktails made with baijiu, a Chinese liquor, or tea-infused whiskey. The restaurant—he owns one by the same name in Baltimore—has a modern design with green tiling and accents, plus a large window that opens to an indoor/outdoor dining counter. Opened: May 9. // 1550 Crystal Drive, Arlington (National Landing)
BurgerFi
The Florida-based burger concept serves Angus beef and cage-and-antibiotic-free chicken sourced from a family-owned farm. On the menu are the Yes, Chef Burger (a nod to restaurant show The Bear, perhaps?) with caramelized onions and American cheese, wagyu beef hot dogs and new bowls (think protein and all the fixin’s, minus the bun). Fries, onion rings and six types of shakes round out the menu. Opened: May 8. // 1735 N. Lynn St., Arlington (Rosslyn)
Kanji Izakaya
This new Japanese restaurant offers teriyaki, ramen, yakitori and hibachi dishes in addition to traditional and signature sushi rolls. Some of those include the Pink Lady ($17), Kanji ($16) and Butterfly ($18). Opened: May 8. // 4301 Fairfax Drive, Arlington (Ballston)
Stellina Pizzeria
The fifth location of this local pizzeria is now open at Capital One Center in Tysons. Find traditional dishes inspired by northern and southern Italian street foods such as the classic Margherita pizza and the “Fraid” Cicchen Parmigiana panini with Milanese-style fried chicken, tomato sauce, mozzarella, lettuce and lime mayo. This location, which joins sister spots at Upside on Moore and in Shirlington, also hosts classes on pizza and pasta making. Opened: April 30. // 1610 Capital One Drive, Tysons
Sushi Umi
Three and a half years after opening its first location in Herndon, this Japanese restaurant comes to Tysons. Open for lunch and dinner, it offers Wagyu beef and fried chicken bowls, plus 15 classic sushi rolls and more than 35 signature ones. Those specialties include the Chewbacca Roll (shrimp tempura, spicy crag, tobiko and cucumber inside, plus mango, fried yam and yum yum sauce on the outside) and Mexican Roll (spicy tuna, cucumber, radish sprouts, and tobiko topped with avocado, jalapeños, and spicy mayo). Opened: April 22. // 7599 Colshire Drive, Tysons
Burger Billy’s Joint
Serving smash-style burgers made from grass-fed, locally-sourced Angus beef from Cottonwood Ranch in Front Royal, this new spot uses a Food Locker system. Place an order online or onsite at a kiosk, then make your way to a locker, enter the code on your receipt and get your grub. Options include a plain patty or cheeseburger, plus more innovative choices, including Billy’s El Loco, with fried jalapeños, pepper jack cheese and jalapeño ranch, and the meatless Billy’s I Can’t Believe It’s Not a Burger Burger. Sliders, hot dogs, wings and fries round out the menu. Opened: April 13. // 3800 Langston Blvd., Arlington (Cherrydale)

Check out curated maki rolls such as the Wren (shrimp tempura, snow crab, avocado and macadamia nuts) Goshoku (snow crab, tuna, salmon, whitefish and more) and Akebono (spicy tuna, cucumber, torched salmon and truffle miso). If you’d rather have something hot, our food critic recommends the ramen with roast pork, corn and a seven-minute egg. // 1825 Capital One Drive, Tysons

Chef Chris Morgan, a two-time James Beard semifinalist, and restaurateur Reza Farahani, are turning the bar and patio space at their Persian concept Joon into a separate entity. May Bar’s menu of fancy bar snacks also includes tuna tartare, hummus with dry-aged duck and Turkish flatbread with ground lamb.
