Other fashion-forward elements include a lacquered coffee table made from an 800-year-old tree trunk, which the Sauris purchased at an antique shop in Kensington, Maryland, and a sleek, white light fixture by designer David Weeks above the kitchen island.
The couple took their kids and pets into account when designing the home’s functional spaces. In the kitchen, four tufted stools and a large island allow for homework and dinner prep to happen simultaneously. Cabinets made of Indonesian Macassar ebony wood make a bold statement, but they also do double duty in keeping the busy kitchen clear of clutter. A block of cabinets above the Thermador stove conceals a professional-grade hood, and the fridge hides behind two flat-paneled white doors.
