8 Indie Shops to Visit This Holiday Season

Find the perfect gift and support local small businesses in one fell swoop.

Something intoxicating…

Accounting brought Beth Helle and Julie Drews together, but it was over beer and wine that they really bonded – from homebrewing, to brewery visiting, to wine tours to, eventually, offering the best of all three worlds under one roof in The Brew Shop. Year-round, shoppers can stock up on homebrewing supplies to try their own hand at the craft – pun intended – or keep it simple and pick up old reliables like The Little Sheep Sauvignon Blanc, Auspicion Cabernet, IPAs from Commonwealth Brewing, or whatever seasonal brew Solace, Crooked Run, Rocket Frog and Three Notch’d Brewing are offering. Since they’re exclusive to this time of year, though, shoppers should consider taking advantage of The Brew Shop’s gift baskets – they can be customized or stick to a theme like “all local beer” or “all IPAs”– which feature Brew Shop glasses and swag alongside the sippable gifts. They can also take home a “Tis’ the Season” six pack of seasonal beers – the Hardywood Gingerbread Stout and Great Lakes Christmas Ale are favorites, as are red wines from Lapis Luna. Just in time for Thanksgiving week, the shop is offering a German chocolate cake “Small Business Stout” made in partnership with Rocket Frog Brewing and other local businesses. Once the holidays are over, be on the lookout for the store’s fourth birthday party, slated for January 25, 2020. // 2004 Wilson Blvd., Arlington (Courthouse)
