Something adventurous…

We all know what a traditional consignment store is, and Second Ascent isn’t it – on purpose. “I love consignment shops,” explains owner Lisa Peregory, “but most of the ones I have ever been to are fashion, trendy brands and that isn’t really me.” What’s a better fit for the once avid rock climber, camper and hiker is an adventure-focused second-hand boutique. That’s what she ultimately opened in November 2015 – after securing the space, she started securing the goods simply by hanging up a paper sign asking people if they’d bring in their slightly used outdoor products. Now, her inventory is always changing, but she typically carries popular names like Patagonia, Columbia, The North Face, Prana, Keen and Marmot for both men and women, and in the winter months, outerwear and boots for tots, too. She’s also stocked with gear and supplies such as sleeping bags, tents, stoves, trekking poles and backpacks – lots of backpacks. In the future, maybe she’ll have more room for them, as Peregory is considering moving to a larger space. But as for right now, she’s focused on running a raffle that starts on Black Friday, with shoppers getting one ticket for every $25 they spend, and the winner of the $50 store gift card being announced on Dec. 29. // 2757 Washington Blvd., Arlington (Lyon Park)
