Spoons Toons & Booze Halloween Special
When: Oct. 30 & 31
Where: Arlington Cinema and Drafthouse, 2903 Columbia Pike, Arlington
If you’re sick of watching Netflix, consider taking a trip—down memory lane and outside your house—to watch some favorite old-school cartoons while feasting on an all-you-can-eat cereal bar and brunchy cocktails (try “The Sonny,” a White Russian topped with Cocoa Puffs). The Drafthouse is hosting an “After Dark” Halloween-themed cartoon event on Oct. 30 and a more traditional Saturday morning viewing session on Oct. 31 at noon. Masks are required upon entry and tables are positioned six feet apart. Costumes encouraged. $15.
Halloween at Mount Vernon
When: Oct. 31, 2-6 p.m.
Where: George Washington’s Mount Vernon, 3200 Mount Vernon Memorial Highway
Under normal circumstances, costumed guests at George Washington’s Mount Vernon are invited to trick-or-treat in the historic area. That’s not possible this year, but the site is planning other kinds of spooky fun for little ones to enjoy, from Halloween shows and crafts, to a chocolate-making demonstration and, of course, a bag of candy upon exit. $8-10.
Doggie Trick-or-Treating
When: Oct. 31, 2-4 p.m.
Where: Dogma Bakery, 2772 S. Arlington Mill Drive (Shirlington)
Dogma Bakery is hosting a costume contest and your furry friend is invited. Photos will be taken at check-in, with pet costumes subsequently judged on social media. Each participating pup will receive a goodie bag for collecting housemade treats (particpating dogs will have designated trick-or-treating time slots). Registration required. Cost is $12 per dog.
Elevation Celebration at National Harbor

The Capital Wheel in National Harbor is open year-round with its climate-controlled, 72-degree gondolas. The “Elevation Celebration” package comes with two souvenir cups and two drams of True Respite Brewing’s “The Perfect Day” brew. Operators have stepped up safety precautions, with mandatory masks for employees and gratis hand sanitizer. The gondola cars are deep cleaned overnight, and other Covid precautions are being taken. $45.
Greg Kahn: Havana Youth
When: Through Nov. 24
Where: Cody Gallery of Marymount University, 1000 North Glebe Road, 2nd Floor
Historical events often shape a generation. A defining phenomenon for today’s young Cubans is the “The Special Period in Time of Peace,” the roughly ten-year economic crisis that followed the dissolution of the Soviet Union in the 90s and early 2000s. This free photo exhibit at Marymount University’s Cody Gallery captures the spirit of that generation. Gallery visits available by appointment between 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Thursdays-Fridays. Email cgallery@marymount.edu to schedule a visit.
