A Tribute to Johnny Cash

The show starring The Man in Black’s own flesh and blood, Rosanne Cash, has been rescheduled again to Nov. 15, 2021. But this tribute to her father by J.C. Cole and his Folsom ’68 band sounds like a pretty good substitute to hold over Cash family superfans. $29.50.

Time to bundle up and have a little fun outdoors. The ice rink is open, but operating at 50% capacity to ensure safe physical distancing. All skaters must wear masks and pre-purchase tickets online ($9-$10, plus $5 for skate rentals). As a bonus, adults can enjoy boozy beverages rinkside, thanks to a “sip and stroll” permit that allows to-go drinks in designated areas. Participating restaurants selling drinks to-go include Asia Bistro, Basic Burger, Bund’Up, Wild Tiger, Saigon Saigon and Sin’ E Irish Pub.

Vertical Interval and Beginningless Endless

Where: McLean Project for the Arts, 1234 Ingleside Ave., McLean

Staged in the McLean Community Center’s Emerson Gallery, Vertical Interval: New Works is a collection of physical and digital landscapes by McLean artist Joseph Cortina. In the Atrium Gallery, Beginningless Endless features pieces inspired by artist Shanthi Chandrasekar’s background in psychology and physics. Admission is free.

Nekisha Durrett: Magnolia

When: Jan. 21-March 19

Where: Cody Gallery of Marymount University, 1000 N. Glebe Road, 2nd Floor, Arlington

Inspired by the #sayhername movement, Washington, D.C.-based artist Nekisha Durrett uses a magnolia leaves to tell the stories of 30 Black women who were killed by law enforcement. Only five visitors are permitted inside the gallery at a time. Admission is free.

Be Fit McLean

When: Through March 26

Where: McLean Community Center online

This annual fitness festival is still happening, albeit virtually. Health and wellness exhibitors will share their know-how online, and the content will be available through early spring. Participation is free.


 

 

“Passport to the World of Music” Concert Series

When: Through March 27

Where: Creative Cauldron online

Creative Cauldron’s 10th installment of the “Passport to the World of Music” concert series will be virtual this year, but still showcase a variety of musical genres—blues, jazz, Latin, bluegrass, folk and more—from a variety of talented artists. Creative Cauldron will live stream the performances on Fridays, and Saturdays at 7:30 p.m., and Sunday at 7:00 p.m. $15.

American Red Cross Blood Donations

When: Ongoing

Where: Multiple locations

Millions of Americans need blood, platelet and plasma donations, which are now harder to come by because of Covid-19. What could be more lovely than showing a stranger your care by donating? The Red Cross is testing donations for Covid-19 antibodies, and those who donate before Feb. 28 will receive a $5 Amazon gift card.
