When: May 17, 2-7 p.m. (rides preview) and May 18, 11 a.m.-5 p.m.

This family event sponsored by the McLean Community Center draws more than 10,000 visitors each year and features live entertainment, exhibitors, sponsors, food trucks, carnival rides, games, a petting zoo and more. A preview with large, ticketed rides only, will take place May 17 from 2 to 7 p.m. No entrance fee.

Ballston Quarterfest

Where: Wilson Boulevard, between North Taylor and North Quincy streets

When: May 18-19, Noon-6 p.m.

After 31 years as the Taste of Arlington, the annual street festival is now Quarterfest, in a nod to the dramatic transformation of the Ballston business district. This year’s event promises a street pub with craft brews, hard cider and spirit tastings, as well as free outdoor concerts. A Quarterfest Crawl on Saturday will include free food tastes from participating restaurants, and patrons can check out the Food Truck Alley on Sunday. Entry is free; drink ticket booklets start at $20.

Billboard-charting Americana outfit The Avett Brothers (only two are brothers, in case you were curious) stop by for a micro residency at Wolf Trap, and may bring some banjos and heartfelt melodies (“I And Love And You”) along. $45-$75.
