Running Against Racism

Join this inaugural 5K walk/run honoring historic Arlington residents who have stood up to racism. Proceeds will benefit Arlington nonprofit Challenging Racism.

National Chamber Ensemble: The Contemporaries

Where: Gunston Arts Center, Theatre One, 2700 S. Lang St., Arlington

When: May 4, 7:30 p.m.

The National Chamber Ensemble’s season-closing concert features contemporary music, with classical, pop and jazz works, including the premiere of Alexander Goldstein’s new disco-infused piano trio. Music and dance unite as the ensemble and Bowen McCauley Dance stage a collaborative performance set to the music of Igor Stravinsky. The “Suite Italienne” is based on scenes from the composer’s ballet Pulcinella. A reception with the artists follows the concert. $18-$36

Derby & Dogs

Where: Barley Mac, 1600 Wilson Blvd., Arlington

The horses are on the track, and the Rosslyn restaurant will also have adoptable pups on site during this festive Kentucky Derby watch party and yappy hour. Grab your pooch and head over for “Derby & Dog” themed cocktails, treats, a mint julep demo and silent auction. Awards will be handed out for best-dressed human and best-in-show dog. Admission is free, but cash and supply donations are requested. The event benefits Wolf Trap Animal Rescue.
