As if seeing one of the last remaining Beatles perform wasn’t enough of a draw, famed Beatles drummer Ringo Starr will be joined by Colin Hay from Men at Work, Gregg Rolie from Santana and Journey, and a roster of other veterans from revered groups. $45.

Alexandria Summer Sidewalk Sale

Where: Old Town and Del Ray, Alexandria

When: Aug. 10-11

This annual shopping event is now in its 10th year, with more than 50 participating boutiques, huge discounts, live music and pop-up events. (Heads up: These may include a rosé bar and a steam-clean jewelry station.) Free admission.

Assassins

Perhaps it’s only fitting that Signature Theatre begins its 30th anniversary season with its 30th Stephen Sondheim musical. The dark comedy Assassins explores several notorious presidential assassins (and attempted assassins), including John Wilkes Booth, Lee Harvey Oswald and John Hinckley Jr. $40+.

Dog Days of Summer

When: Aug. 11 & Aug. 25, 3 p.m.

Arlington County Fair

Where: Thomas Jefferson Community Center, 3501 Second St. S., Arlington

When: August 14-18

Funnel cakes, Ferris wheels, pumpkin competitions, a parade, piglet races, pony rides and more greet visitors at the county fair, one of the largest free, annual events on the East Coast, with more than 84,000 visitors each year. Admission is free, but rides are ticketed.
