1. University of Virginia
Founded by Thomas Jefferson in 1819, this “public ivy,” known for its business, law, education, engineering and medical schools, is ranked 28th among the Top National Universities by U.S. News & World Report. In-state tuition is $17,891 ($50,920 out-of-state) and 16,777 students are enrolled. This year Arlington applications rose to 432, up from 392 in 2018. Wonder if that had anything to do with the Cavaliers’ 2019 NCAA men’s basketball championship? UVA is the alma mater of Arlington native/Yorktown High School grad Katie Couric, Edgar Allan Poe, Georgia O’Keeffe, Nats players Ryan Zimmerman and Sean Doolittle, and quite a few members of the Kennedy family.
