Like we need a reason to justify eating tacos. October 4 is National Taco Day, and we do love our weekly Taco Tuesdays, but isn’t every day a good day to grab this favorite food, with its seemingly infinite varieties of fillings and toppings? Here are some local joints where you can sample all manners of the delectable dish, and in some cases, help support a cause.
Taco Bamba Taqueria
Falls Church and Vienna
Step into any of the Taco Bamba locations on Friday, Oct. 4, and you’ll be part of a location-wide contest: the 2nd Annual Bambathon, during which each location will race to sell 1,500 first. For each location that sells this number of tacos, the company will donate $1,000 per location to World Central Kitchen, the nonprofit started by chef Jose Andres in 2010 to bring food to those devastated by natural disasters (it’s currently hard at work in the Bahamas). Also, Friday, Oct. 4 is the last day to enjoy the Bahama Mama Fish Fry Taco, made up of crispy grouper, coconut rice and peas, candied habanero and conch salad.
La Tingeria
Food truck stationed at Ballston Metro and Arlington Mill Community Center
La Tingeria will be roving the streets of Arlington Friday starting at the Ballston Metro from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. and then headed to Arlington Mill Community Center 5-9 p.m. This truck, operated by David Rena, a former sous chef at Rustico, focuses on authentic Mexican food with no fuss.Â
