Meatless options aren't an afterthought at these local eateries.

2711 Wilson Blvd., Arlington (Clarendon)

Galaxy Hut may have the aesthetic of a dive bar, but it offers a lot more than peanuts and pretzels. Aside from its commanding craft beer selection, Galaxy offers a host of sandwiches and appetizers that can be customized for vegans and vegetarians, from a crispy “chicken” sandwich to a vegan BLT complete with soy bacon and dairy-free cheese. (The same menu items are available in meat versions if your party includes carnivores.) Vegan corn dog bites are perfectly breaded without hiding the smoky flavor of the soy dogs inside. Vegetarians who are tired of eating the celery sticks while their poultry-loving friends enjoy endless varieties of wings will be thrilled to try Galaxy’s “buffalo things.” These imitation wings are technically made of cauliflower, but could easily fool any meat eater (especially after a few beers).

Other dishes to try:

  • Eggplant fries
  • Vegan “pig” Rangoon
  • Vegan Cubany sandwich
