10 Local Apps to Make Your Life Easier

Looking for a job? A lost pet? A bike to borrow? Other new moms in the neighborhood? There’s an app for that.

Parkmobile

Parkmobile isn’t exactly new, but it’s a must for anyone familiar with the tribulations of street parking in Arlington. Adopted by the county in 2014, the mobile payment option is now available at all of Arlington’s 5,329 metered spots, allowing you to pay for parking wirelessly and remotely. Store a credit or debit card number in your user profile, plug in the “parking zone” number on the meter, and you can pay for parking instantly. No coins or tickets required. Stuck in a never-ending meeting or running later than expected? The app will send you text alerts when your parking session is about to expire, and in many cases will give you the option of extending your session remotely. Gone are the days of digging under the driver’s seat for quarters and praying to the higher powers that you make it back to your car before the meter maid beats you to it.
