10 Local Apps to Make Your Life Easier

Looking for a job? A lost pet? A bike to borrow? Other new moms in the neighborhood? There’s an app for that.

Spotcycle

Have you ever wanted to go on a bike ride, but don’t actually own a bike? Whether you’re on a summer fitness kick, curious about local bike trails or looking for an alternative mode of transportation, cycling can be a welcome option for getting outside and getting somewhere. With Spotcycle, you can locate and rent bikes throughout major cities and their surrounding burbs—no pesky paper forms required.  Enter your ZIP code or allow the app’s GPS to pinpoint your location and a map of nearby bike-sharing stations— including those of DC’s Capital Bikeshare—will pop up on the app’s interactive map. Locally, Spotcycle bike stations can be found in areas such as Clarendon, Ballston, Virginia Square, Westover, East Falls Church and Tysons Galleria, to name a few. Many of the stations are conveniently placed at metro stations.
