10 Local Apps to Make Your Life Easier

Looking for a job? A lost pet? A bike to borrow? Other new moms in the neighborhood? There’s an app for that.

MamaLeave

There’s no shortage of apps designed to help busy singles meet up with potential love interests. But what about busy parents who just want to meet up with other busy parents to squeeze in a play date? Arlingtonian Laurie Cordova is no stranger to the logistical challenges of parenting young kids—from nap schedules and grocery runs to coordinating carpools. She remembers, as a new mom, wishing there was a way to meet up with other moms in the neighborhood who were free on a moment’s notice when she was free. Her app, MamaLeave, makes those connections possible. Enter your ZIP code and you’ll be plugged into your neighborhood’s group chat room, at which point you can begin talking to fellow users.  From there, you can view profiles of other local parents, create private groups to streamline plans, and send out event invites. The app was born in Arlington, but Cordova is now taking it nationwide.
