Shocktober
Fridays (7-10 p.m.), Saturdays (6-10 p.m.) and Sundays (6-9 p.m.) through Nov. 2
It wasn’t named the fifth-scariest U.S. haunted house by Travel + Leisure for nothing. Within Shocktober’s 150-year-old Carlheim Manor, guests will make their way through spooky rooms and try to avoid the costumed characters, dressed according to this year’s theme, Camp Carlheim. “The story of Camp Carlheim weaves in the true history of the manor and its property with a story about its haunted past and modern-day terror,” explains Matt Smith, Shocktober’s “creative genius” and director of facilities for The Arc of Loudoun—a nonprofit supporting individuals with disabilities and Shocktober’s beneficiary. Fortunately, visitors will have a chance to wash away whatever they see with an Oxorcist II beer brewed by Old Ox Brewery or a glass of specialty Shocktober wine made by Tarara Winery. // 601 Catoctin Circle NE, Leesburg
