With summer finally here, our thoughts are turning to fresh berries, asparagus, flowers, seafood – and the ideal places to buy them: Farmers markets. On different days of the week you can find markets in Arlington, McLean, Falls Church, Merrified and Del Ray, each with a different vibe. Below is a sampling of what’s new this year.
Columbia Pike Farmers Market
This year-round Sunday market, open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. during the summer and 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. from January through March, has been operating for at least 25 years, says Amy McWilliams, market coordinator at the Columbia Pike Revitalization Organization, the market’s sponsor. There are 18 vendors, most of whom sell fruits and vegetables.
Location:Â 2820 Columbia Pike, Arlington (intersection of Columbia Pike and South Walter Reed Drive)
New this year: Morningside Farm & Nursery of Culpeper County, Va., which sells plants and flowers.
